Hi everyone!

I recently set up a Mac Pro 4,1 that I fully specced out for video editing and 3d modeling. It's working great except for the audio. It's constantly stuttering/sputtering and it's basically impossible to do any kind of audio editing. The CPUs don't go above 10% usage, same with the RAM, so it's not a bottleneck issue. Nothing else lags or stutters either, it's just the audio. I've tried changing the settings in Midi Audio Settings and using a Scarlett 2i2 USB interface, which made it much worse. I also checked the headphone port on the front and line out on the back but both have the same issue. I looked around online for tips but didn't see any definitive answers so hopefully someone can help out! Thanks!

Specs:
Mac Pro 4,1 flashed to 5,1
Dual Xeon X5690 Processors
128GB RAM
Radeon RX5600XT Graphics Card
macOS Monterey 12.7.4

I have the same issue on one of my Mac Pros. I have several Mac pros and it only happens to one of them. Swapping video card, ram, etc… doesn’t seem to resolve the issue so I assume it’s a processor issue.

Well that's too bad. I guess I might have gotten a bad set of processors somehow. Very odd. Maybe I'll get different ones to install and see if it fixes the issue.

There may be a few free test before the processor route...
You didn't mention what app for video editing you are using
What kind of drive(s) the footage is on for play back
What kind of footage HD-8K (R3D ARRI Cannon etc)
Have you tried the same footage with audio @ 44.1 if it's 48
Have you tried playing the audio without the video
Audio as a 2 trk (stereo mix)
Audio as several trks while video trks are playing
During play back of a multicam sequence

It happens when any audio is playing. When editing, watching YouTube, system sounds, all audio. But I'm using Davinci Resolve.
