I had a HD fail a while back (the day I installed Leopard
) and this drive contained all my movies. I managed to get them back via a data recovery place but now some of the movies stutter when they didnt before. I thought thats not too bad for bringing them back from the dead as there was a strong chance of corruption or total data loss so I thought I could live with it. But now when I go to transcode some existing (other non stuttering) AVIs, MOVs etc they also seem to stutter once transcoded.
Its not the hard drive because I have 3 and have moved the files around to see if it affects playback... it doesnt; They still stutter.
I use both QT and VH and still seem to get the stuttering what ever I do. Sometimes its apparent right from the start of the movie or sometimes it becomes apparent a few minutes in. Using different settings I get varied results and cannot distinguish a pattern from it all as yet. Right now I am transcoding an AVI (that doesn't stutter) using VH and slightly tweaked settings from the last stuttery conversion.
The stuttering is quite noticeable and seems to happen once every second. I'm no video expert but I have a feeling its a keyframe issue? Or maybe my CPU is just getting a bit old and can't hack it anymore?
In QT how should keyframes be handled? Automatic, Current, 24?
Does anyone else have this problem? Like I said its happened since my external HD died which also happened to be the same day I installed Leopard, so maybe its a Leopard issue?
I'm running a PMG5 Dual 1.8Ghz with 2GB ram.
