Check this film out now! This is a game changer in film making. Truly felt like I was in the movie with the characters and sharing what they were experiencing. I don’t want to spoil anything but one scene involving water made me react as if I was actually going under water. The director did a fantastic job of having a focal point but still giving you the freedom to look at what else is happening in the scene. I can’t wait for more films like this to be produced.

This. This film is next level. For so long I’ve heard the argument that Vision Pro is just like the failed 3D tv experiments. And just as those failed, the AVP will fail as well…Nope.

This new film shows the potential of Immersive Filmmaking. Not just 3D in a rectangular box, but 180 Immersion, where you feel like you’re in the actual movie. Just so hard to explain, but the emotional connection to the characters and the plot is nothing like I’ve ever felt before. Nothing like 3D film, which yes, is neat, but compared to this, is just a novelty. And yes, there are other immersive shows already released, but that this was crafted dramatically for the AVP and the experience of being inside a story, not just inside a video; you get brought into it emotionally in a way that is wholly new.

180 Immersive Filmmaking. This will be one of the killer apps of the AVP (and other headsets).

Yeah, this was excellent. After the first few times using Vision Pro and seeing those immersive demos my (and I'm sure many) first thought was TV or movies filmed in immersive will be game changing. The short nature of these immersive videos they do have though must mean they are not simple to produce.

My understanding is the camera technology hasn’t been widely available at a cost effective price and what Apple announced at WWDC is step one in the process of, hopefully, changing that which makes me wonder about the quality, availability and cost of the editing / post production tools as well.

Then there’s the whole chicken and egg problem. There aren’t exactly a lot of Vision Pro’s out there. There are far more Meta Quest headsets which is why, though they are competitors, it’s behooves both Apple and Meta to work together on a standard available on the most devices possible which is why I was thrilled to see Meta support spatial video. Unless / until Apple has an affordable consumer device out there with a large enough customer base to be enticing to content producers I want to see Meta embrace Apple’s video formats to increase the size of the available market.

I have to say as a person with limited sight (practically no vision at all in my right eye), I find these immersive experiences fascinating. They draw you in totally - I can only imagine what they must look like in 3D. I want more!

Is it me or is the video quality of this movie way better than the other immersive videos?

It just feels incredibly real and high res. At one point I felt like I had a torpedo pushed into my chest 😂
It defintely seemed more clear than many of the other videos. The “elevated” series Hawaii episode is the next best one as far as clarity.

I do not like the face shots in Submerged and now The Weeknd where you are 6 inches from a full screen face. Makes me very uncomfortable

I’m glad to hear you say that. I was hoping it wasn’t just me. There is so much they could do with the technology. The close-ups are, like you said, uncomfortable. I want to see more, not less.

This effed me up. I legit felt like the blood was rushing to my head at one point, when the camera was up high and looking down at people talking.

Really insane how the brain is tricked into thinking it’s real and you feel the same effects.

It's even worse in the new RAYE video. IMO, Apple got it right in the immersive high lining and rhino pieces, where they used closeups judiciously. Admittedly very different material, but still.

if they didn't do closeups nothing would ever look truly clear... it's the only time the 8k really gets pushed. the further away things are the blurrier they get.

I have a better understand of why they do it after trying to take some Thanksgiving shots with my Canon dual fisheye. You can't shoot at a distance in a room as everything is far away and you see your feet. You need to have a very large shooting object (like the Arc de Triomphe in Hugh Ho's video) to fill the frame otherwise everything is way too small.
