Maybe this is a stupid question, but if I go to the Apple Store to buy a 3G phone on July 11th, do I get the subsidized price (assuming I'm eligible)?

In other words, is Apple selling them directly at the subsidy price, or do you need to go to AT&T to get that price?

What he said.

Also, in order to check if you're eligible, I believe Apple is receiving training from AT&T on account checks and stuff (like how AT&T is receiving iPhone training).

The old "gift" excuse will be the same as any other subsidized phone sold by ATT that people buy as gifts. You either have to pay full price, or get a gift certificate for the subsidized price and let the user come in and sign the contract themself.

well then...

ebay or craigslist will be my friend here.

Not really.

The only way I can think of to get a 3G iPhone without the contract is if they signed the contract at the beginning, waited 30 days, then cancelled the contract and paid the early termination fee.
