I'm not sure how this happened (in an Apple store), but when I went in to get two 3Gs phones, I was given the $199 price even though only one of our upgrades actually qualified for the low price. My wife has a 2G that obviously was in line with the subsidized pricing, but they also gave me the $199 price on my 3Gs even though I was upgrading from a 3G that was purchased in July of 2008.

Was that correct? Or did I get lucky?

well AT&T made that eligibility change yesterday... seems as though they determined that you were eligible to upgrade your 3G after 1 year.
So far, AT&T is telling me that I will be eligible to upgrade in November - exactly 1 year after I purchased my 3G...

cool. thanks for the info guys.

for some reason i never fully deciphered what their 'update' to the sub pricing was.

off to enjoy the 3Gs!

I was quoted the same price as you on 6/10 (prior to the change). This is why I have saying that you have to call ATT to determine what your price will be. I had 2 1st gen iPhones and upgraded 1 last july and am not getting 2 3gs 32gb for $299 each. Again, quoted on 6/10.
