I'm trying to get subtitles into movie files to play on the ps3 through an external harddrive and so far haven't had any luck getting them to actually work. I live in Colombia and would like to be able to get spanish subs into the movie files so I can watch them with the lady (her english is still a work in progress)
I'm running osx 10.5.8 and have handbrake 0.9.5 (the newer versions I haven't been able ot get to work with my os) whenever I've gone through the process the subs haven't shown up on the ps3, it simply says no subtitle options.
What I've tried so far:
adding in the sub in handbrake through an external .srt. only option it allows me to select is default, burned in is not checkable. in cases where it's already an mp4 file it doesn't actually re-encode, so no go
tried putting the subs in through isubtitle which works fine on the computer but saves it in .mov which the playstation doesn't play.
so tried to take the .mov with the subs added and run it through handbrake, same problem they sho up on the computer but playstation doesn't detect any subtitles
What I'm trying now:
I just started another re-encode from the .mov with the subs changed to UTF-8 format. I included a foreign audio search within handbrake (hoping it will pick up the burned in subs from isubtitle) as well as adding in the subtitle track it detects and re-adding the external .srt file.....takes it about 10 hours to encode, so we'll see what happens
in the meantime am I on the right track here? I've done a lot of googling and reading but haven't had any luck finding my specific situation with the version of handbrake I have. the one thing I did stumble upon is that the ps3 may not read iso-whatever subs and they need to be in utf-8. so maybe that solves the problem
any other suggestions on how to get subs into the file so the playstation will pick up on them. I know another option would be to try with a media server to stream them, but our internet isn't the best and i worry about streaming blurary quality movies over it, not to mention the fact that it kicks out a lot.
any advice/answers/suggestions are much appreciated.
