Subversion Status Problem( ? ! )

I am new to mac, and was just checking out my subversion repository, the one I used on Windows. The thing is that after checking it out, if I run a svn status -u, I get a lot of files with the ? status, meaning that they are not under version control, strange, cause I just checked them out. I can add a new file, call the svn add command, and do a commit, and will do the commit with no issue. I am using Leopard 10.5.2, subversion 1.4.5 on server, and 1.4.4 on client.
