I just hooked up a new power strip to my home entertainment center. When the amp is switched off, it automatically shuts off power to the other components. It's a great feature -- in my case it saves about 70 watts compared to the old powerstrip. But when the subwoofer is shut off it makes a loud "wump" sound every time. Very annoying! Any ideas on how to prevent this?

[sorry in advance if this is the wrong forum -- seems like the closest fit]

It sounds like the subwoofer is active (ie powereed by itself).

The way to avoid the "pop" would be to turn the sub off first before the amp.

if the sub has a built in amp thats called active as stated as above.

you first want to shut off the sub then your amp then power switch.

i have a set of powered speakers that i run out from my master on my mixer for my dj set. i always turn them off first then my amp in order to keep that loud noise or thump from occuring. then in reverse order when turnning everything on.

Thanks -- that makes sense. Does anyone know of a power strip that would do this automatically?

That's what's nice about this power strip -- it shuts everything else off when I switch off my amp. But there's no remote for the subwoofer, so I can't shut it off without crawling back behind my unit to the power strip.

Some less expensive powered speakers will "pop" when shut off no matter what.

You need to shut down powered speakers before shutting down the amp or mixer. Sounds like you need a power switch on your desk. A decent one from a music store doesn't cost more than $30.
