Success using Amazon Balance (from Gift Cards / 'Reload') to purchsae large Apple Gift Cards?

I would like to use my Amazon Balance (a spending balance held by Amazon as one redeems Amazon Gift Cards or 'reloads' from credit cards into the balance) to purchase some large Apple Gift Cards to use at an Apple Store to buy a new mac. There are horror stories on some forums that Amazon will ban your account and seize remaining balance for this action, though the stories I have see six months to several years old.

I am wondering if folks have recent experience one way or the other on this more recently, or any useful tips on this.
