As this is one of my first posts, I'm sure this all has been covered before in the tens of thousands of posts on this wonderful site. Basically, I've been reading articles on CNet.com, apple.slashdot.org, ZDNet et al and it occured to me that there an _awful_ lot of articles mentioning Apple and its products.

For example, this article talks about Windows Media 9.0, yet relentlessly compares it to Apple's Quicktime (incidentally, there are a few quotes directly from Bill in there about how the PC will be the center of the digital lifestyle or something like that - sound old-hat/familiar?):

And here's another story about Real, which seems to indicate that Real, in their infinite wisdom and near bankruptcy have bested Apple in the OpenSource environment:

And I can't help to think to myself that with Apple's 'minescule' marketshare, why are ppl - influential, economy-shaping _business_ppl_ playing copy-cat to a company that apparently 'can't get it together'?

To me, this is along the same lines of GM saying "Look, we came out with this new model that has all the same features as a Porche"... if Apple realy 'doesn't matter' in the culture/economy/social circles, why all the attention?

Anyway. As I mentioned, I'm sure all this has been covered. I just thought I'd get this all down before I learn something new and these thoughts get pushed out of my head...

Thanks for listening,
