I have an early 2008 iMac 24" and suddenly tonight I'm experiencing screen flickering. Every 5 minutes or so either the entire screen or, say, just the bottom third will "blink" out and back (although it has gone longer not doing it). The effect is similar to me looking at the screen and blinking in duration.
The only change I made to my system prior to this happening is to update Oracle's Java to Version 7 Update 9 (build 1.7.0_09-b05).
Any idea what could be causing this?
Could the Java update have anything to do with it?
Could it be a software issue or more likely a hardware issue, and, if the latter, what is the most likely culprit (video card, logic board, power supply, etc.)?

I've now noticed some web pages don't seem to be rendering properly. Particularly, Apple's page showcasing the new iMac, some of the images of the iMac appear to be missing (same with iPod images on the iPod page).
