Sudden Motion Sensor extremely active?

Hi, I just bought a new 13" MacBook Pro, the early 2011 variant. I've just finished transferring everything from my old plastic macbook but I have one question, it seems like the harddrive heads are getting parked by the sms very often, like even if I just pick the computer up or tap it near the harddrive. Is this the typical behavior and could it be detrimental to the harddrive. Maybe it was like this in my macbook as well but I couldn't hear it as well due to the materials? I don't know.
