Saturday night, phone worked perfectly fine. Then without warning, it stopped allowing anything through the microphone. If I call the phone, the call drops immediately. If I try to do Voice Memo, the recording button is disabled. A hard reset didn't change anything. I've never seen a phone crap out like that in one fell swoop. Not dropped, not wet -- just stopped working.

Have you seen this before?

Sounds like the hardware for your microphone has failed. If software is telling the hardware to do something and it causes a crash then you know you have a hardware failure. General rule of thumb, if the speaker button or recoding button is greyed out using the voicemail app you know you may have a hardware failure. I would backup your data and book an Appt. If you want to try an isolate a hardware issue yourself, you can try restoring the device using iTunes and set it up as new. If issues persists > hardware failure. If issues are resolved > it was a software bug/glitch.

Great. I'm sure this is not a cheap fix either. So, in our house alone, we had one 6+ fail because of the touch disease, and now one 7+ fail because of loop disease. Not a good record.

Not to be didactic, but was your 7 Plus dropped repeatedly or kept in a tight pocket?
