Suddenly can't access >Settings

5C,1 year, great phone, never a glitch.

Updated to iOS8 24 hrs ago. Tweaked Settings as needed. Everything fine but just accessed >Settings Icon and an unfamiliar screen popped up with an unfamiliar 'Authenticate' prompt. Scrolling it, the screen suddenly defaulted to impenetrable plain grey screen below and now that's all I can get.

All Apps are functioning fine except >Contacts, which is now empty.
