Dear all,

I just noticed that in
System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Firewall -> Firewall Options
a new exception showed up.

The exception is: "com.apple.WebKit.Networking.xpc Allow incoming connections", see enclosed screenshot.

It was not there when I was setting up the MacBook.

Any idea how and why it now showed up?

I found a few websites claiming that "Com.apple.WebKit.Networking.xpc" would be malware. The only difference in the name is a "C" instead of a "c" as the first letter. Is this true?

Thanks and best regards,
Fabian

That process has been around as far as I remember. WebKit is Apple Safari backend. More discussion here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250246408. Basically it looks like there is spoofed antivirus site spreading misinformation about Apple own system processes. I assume some teenager has real blast from people destroying their systems, and than complaining about poor quality Apple software...
