Just checking if anybody else recognizes this issue and has resolved it successfully:

A couple of days ago my MacBook Pro suddenly lost its ability to connect to wireless networks. The "radio beam" icon in the menu bar is there, but I see no networks. It seems to me that the options for turning the wireless networking on and off don't really work, but I'm unsure.

Some additional data points that may or may not be helpful:
- Wired networking does work
- The problem did go away after one reboot but returned on the next and I haven't been able to replicate what might have worked that one time.
- The battery is swollen (it was replaced about three years ago): Not enough to seriously impede trackpad use, but enough that the laptop doesn't stand on all four feet.

EDIT:
I really don't like cargo cult solutions, but for once I did reset the SMC and on the next boot my wireless networking sprang to life again. I'll report back on whether I was lucky or if the problem seems to be resolved.

Change out the battery first. If it has swollen to a point that your laptop isn't sitting square on any surface you're setting it on you should change it out. Chances are once you do that your problems may go away.
