so I have an interesting problem- my sister needed to access an NTFS-formatted HDD with her white MacBook, and thinking this would be a quick fix, I downloaded and proceeded to install an open-source/free app called "NTFS-3G"... unfortunately, it seemed that everything installed correctly, but when I tried to restart the computer, it completely locked up and wouldn't shut down/restart, stating that "Installer" was preventing it from restarting. when I tried to clear this dialog, everything on the MacBook went dead (cursor wouldn't move, etc.), so I did a hard restart- only to boot up to a Question Mark and the message in Disk Utility that the drive could be neither verified nor repaired... it also showed that her HDD had less than 1GB of files on it- what the heck happened?!
I have an appointment at the Apple Store tomorrow morning, so if I'm unable to figure out what the problem is before then, I just hope that Apple can (and if not, to at least provide me with the help to get my sister's computer fixed)... based on her assumption that being "careful" with her computer meant she wouldn't ever have to worry about backing her data up, well, you can imagine the predicament she's in.
