Has anyone tried SugarSync with iWork files? I just downloaded SugarSync, thinking it would really help me keep my files in sync across multiple computers, but I can't seem to get iWork files (such as Numbers) to work once they are synced to another computer. Is anyone else getting this?

Hello,

I am a software engineer at Sharpcast and I work on SugarSync. I am sorry to read that you are seeing this problem. iWork bundles support is something we really want to get to work and we're working on it: you can expect it in an upgrade of SugarSync very soon.

The problem is basically that iWork files are actually folders with a special flag on them - they are bundles. Syncing these properly is a little harder than just syncing this flag though, as the file could get corrupt easily in common conflict scenarios, if we're not careful. But we know how to solve this and it's on the roadmap.

If you happen to see any other file type that doesn't sync well with SugarSync, can you please contact our support team and let them know? This way the engineering team can make sure to build support for it;-)

Thanks for trying out SugarSync,
Jean-Gabriel Morard

Thank you very much for your speedy reply. I have two quick follow up questions.

1. All of the folders that I'm trying to sync contain iWork files. If it's possible that these iWork files could become corrupt in the syncing process, should I hold off on using SugarSync until the upgrade is released?

2. I have also noticed that a lot of QuickLook images are showing up in my online photo gallery. Is that something that your team is working on a fix for as well?

thanks again!

1. No, don't worry; as you said the iWork file won't open in iWork on the second computer, that's all.

2. No, I wasn't aware of this yet, we'll work on it.

Thanks again,
Jean-Gabriel

Hi Jean-Gabriel, just thought I'd resurrect this older thread, as I am in the process of converting over to iWork, and I would very much like to see this file type supported by Sugarsync. Have you guys worked things out in the last few months?

thanks

An update for anyone who comes across this thread. I was going to signup for SugarSync but found packages like iWork still don't work ... July 2008 to now ... and they're still working on supporting Mac package files ... stay with DropSync.
