Lately, I've become obsessed with Nina Simone's music. Can anyone suggest some music that is similar to her music? I've particularly fallen in love with her jazzier songs.

Thanks,

-Don

Do you like Jeff Buckley?

Also, try Johnny Hartman, Chet Baker and Billie Holiday.

Antony and the Johnsons are always getting compared to Nina Simone despite being male.

Dusty Springfield was good, and Duffy had some good songs as well. It's all older stuff from the '60s.

Oh, and if you want something funkier, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings is great. They just came out with a new album.

I've listened to some of Jeff Buckley's stuff. I'm a fan of it. I'll try the others that you listed too. Thanks Lee!

I haven't heard of Anthony and the Johnsons, but I'll gibe them a try. I have listened to Dusty Springfield too.

I'll also give th "funkier" stuff a try too. The fact that it's older stuff doesn't bother me at all; I like older music.

Here's a song from Antony & The Johnson's most recent album from 2009. It's a live performance, but his voice is so incredible that it doesn't make a difference whether he sings in a studio or not. ;)

And I think you'll like Sharon Jones. Her voice isn't as deep as Nina Simone's, but I'm not sure if that's the reason you like her anyway:

The guy you see at the beginning of the video is Lee Fields, who's one of my favourite musicians, and IMO, released the best album of the last 12 months. And yes, this is a shameless plug for Mr. Fields. ;)

Smokey Robinson is another appropriate suggestion, but I'm sure you've heard of him.
