Hiya

After every family member has now outgrown my beloved lime green imac, it lies unused, yet not unloved....

I just cant bring myself to dispose of this design classic, im just stumped thinking of a use for it, its only 300mhz (ish) 6gb disk with os X... not enough disk space to use as a media library or anything like that....internet radio?

Any suggestions most welcome, I cant leave the poor thing alone :-(

MacQuarium FTW!!

hard drive

Buy an internal 3.5" HD and use it as a media server. Installation takes about twenty minutes.

I use my old one as a torrent and music server. Works perfectly.

That's pretty creative. :) Though I think the inner casing of mine is breaking down and wouldn't make a very good water seal. The computer still works though. (For the moment as my mom's work computer).

Upgrade it to use it as a file server, iTunes server

Other options include: Mod project, Maquarium, Mac museum, etc.

I maxed mine out the best I could with old pc parts around the house and I had it in the kitchen as a recipe/itunes computer. I have a TAM in the kitchen now, and the imac is in the babies room where it is exclusively used for itunes radio. I wouldn't gut it yet. They have great speakers in them

Install OS 9 on it and watch it scream again. You can then use it for basic internet (no flash sites), e-mail and word processing. Further, connect it to your main stereo with iTunes 2 and play your music files. Or you can install old classic games: Doom, Duke Nukem 3d, Wolfenstein, Age of Empires 1 and 2, SimCity 1 and 2000, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and so on.

Don't forget Civ II Gold :)

As soon as I move in July to my new place, that's exactly what I'm doing with one! Kitchen Music and Recipe holder for the win! Ofcourse I'm going to throw in a bigger harddrive, but either way, that's my vote!

Although, I still want to throw a mini inside one too, just for yucks. :)

(I want to find a green one to be precise, seems to be plenty popping up for free-30 bucks working here... like the one I had when I was in HS)

I run a dreamcast quake server on mine. I also have a blue and white running a quake 2 server.

I have one I use simply as a jukebox. Just wipe it and load it with your music and hook it to your home theater or whatever speakers you have. It works great for parties. Plus the itunes visuals are fun to have in the background.
