Hi all, Does anyone know the performance of Metal 3 vs. current DirectX in games? I do not know much about this topic.
Is Metal 3 out yet? I think Metal uses innovation to greatly decrease involvement of CPU and efficiently use GPU for graphics and games. This would free CPU to do other calculations about AI, physics, etc.
But I do not think calculations other than graphics, will require a lot of CPU power. And I think GPUs are doing AI and physics calculations currently. Proper use of GPU is a breakthrough! But maybe MacOS could allocate more calculations to CPU depending on how powerful the CPU is, while leaving a bit of CPU power for other necessary calculations (CPU and GPU, maybe like DirectX or however Apple wants, with Apple's innovations).
Do you think this suggestion will improve FPS (to match Windows) in games run on MacOS? With other innovations, will MacOS be even be better than Windows for games? I do not know much. And I could be wrong. Therefore, I would be happy to get feedback. I do not want to lead Apple in the wrong direction.
Edit: If the idea over-heats the CPU, then it's a bad idea.
