Is there such a thing? Like smart mailboxes? I can’t seem to find anything about it, only smart contact groups.

It doesn’t seem to be what I’m looking for, however.

I just sent Apple a suggestion I had (at the bottom of this post), maybe you could send them the same suggestion if you think it would be useful. :)

Basically, I like to enable contact pictures in Mail. This way I can spot the email of someone easier. To do this, you have to do following: add person or company to Contacts, add a picture of them, add their details, mainly the email address.

Now when you receive an email, you should see the picture you set for this contact.

It looks very nice also :)

The problem are big companies — they have too many email addresses, and you can’t know them all. For example Apple. When I receive an email by Apple, it usually displays the Apple logo. Because I added Apple to my contacts, and all the email addresses I had (plus a picture of course). But there’s always new addresses and then there’s suddenly an email by Apple without the picture of the logo I set.

Smart contacts would enable you to automatically add email addresses (or maybe even other infos at a later point) to certain contacts if they contain specific criteria like for example the ending of an email address. It would basically work almost the exact same way smart mailboxes work. Or smart group contacts.

This way I could choose to add all emails that end with @apple.com to the contact “Apple”. This way, even new email, that I haven’t added to my contacts, will be displayed with the Apple logo, that I have set for the Apple contact.

Smart group contacts seem to be something else sadly. They just group contacts, not emails. And it therefore doesn’t work for what I’d like to do, except if there was a way to set a picture for contact groups, but there isn’t as far as I know.

Anyway, I went here (http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html) and sent the message below. If you believe this could be useful for you, you could perhaps send it as well, or write your own message about smart contacts to them :) Cheers.

Hello,

I like to use pictures of contacts in the Mail app. This way I can spot important emails easier, for example if I’m expecting an email from a friend, I’ll easily recognise it thanks to the picture of them.

It’s complicated for companies, because they have so many email addresses, and you can’t know them all. I added my university to my contacts, it has around 20 or 30 email addresses so far.

Smart contacts would automatically add an email address to the contacts, if it ends/begins/contains a certain criteria. A bit like smart mailboxes…

This way, the picture of the company would instantly appear in the mail, even if this address wasn’t added to the contacts before.

I hope I made it clear and understandable! :)
Good weekend or whatever it is right now…

Thanks!
