My iMac Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ with 3 GB of memory did a very fast installation.

I did archive and install, and I unchecked the languages, printer drivers, and x11.

The languages and printer drivers are the big ones. They take up lots of space, and they take more time for the installation to copy all of them over, gigabytes of information.

My installation took less than 20 minutes this way!!

oh, I also recommend skipping the verify disk step at the start. :)

Thanks Apple.

Some of us need all of that.

AND X11!

x11 is small, so it doesn't matter much.

I think a *lot* of people do not need the drivers. You can just install 1 driver, when you get a new printer. Why waste the time and GBs?

Furthermore, if you're just a consumer and know only 1 language, you don't need the language support either. :)

I have multi-language users and we use X applications. ;)

the real question is how much do you save by not installing that? if it's a gig or so then why not install it.

The languages are like 4-5 gigs, and the printer drivers are like 2.5 gigs. That is a lot. Takes a long time, and a lot of space.

BTW If you want to get rid of languages in apps you install, you can use XSlimmer. It saves a ton of space by also deleting PPC binaries on Intel Macs :)

Yep. This is a fantastic recommendation!

During installation, can you select only to install certain printer drivers, or is it all or nothing?>

You can select a manufacturer to install drivers from yes.
