Background: In this world of endless Zoom meetings, I absolutely love the AirPod Pros. They sound great, the noise cancelling works really well when I need it, they’re comfortable, and work basically like magic.
Also, my ears apparently hate the tips, or vice versa. A day or two after several hours worth of meetings, I start to get weepy earwax, then scabby skin, and sometimes even outright pain. My doctor had a look and it wasn’t an infection, but after completing weeks of experiments it seems to pretty clearly be triggered by the AirPod tips.
I can’t really figure out why, honestly. The tip fit is fine--I’m using the middle size and the smaller ones are very obviously too loose. They’re not uncomfortable at all while I’m wearing them. And in two years of using Beats in-ear wireless silicon buds, and years of Dennon in-ear silicon ones, I never once had this kind of irritation, although they were both noticeably less comfortable. For that matter, I wear foam earplugs for work regularly (that’s what the mini pocket on jeans is for!) and never had the slightest issue.
Anyway, whatever the reason, my ears don’t like the stock tips, but I like the hardware so I’m looking for alternates.
I was about to order a set of the Comply 2.0 ones advertised here a while back, but the comments here were for the most part terrible, so I’m now questioning whether they’re a good choice. These CharGen things seem to be extremely well reviewed, so are a second option.
Anybody tried other alternative tips they liked? I’m partial to memory foam because I’m so used to earplugs.
