Suggestions for calendar replacements?

I was not a fan of the old skeuomorphic OS X calendar (the torn paper was just weird), but the new calendar is white on white on white on white, and without any kind of grid display options is just too much for me to look at.

Can anybody recommend a replacement calendar app that is not so hard on the eye? I only need basic calendar events and sharing, nothing too advanced.

I don't have a suggestion but yea.. the lack of grid on the calendar is a bit annoying and I definitely DONT prefer it... wish there was a preference to bring it back.

Or even just an option to display gridlines! Talk about style over substance.

I use BusyCal 2. It's not cheap but it is a very good calendar.
