Suggestions for fun/useful Apps!

Hey all, I just bought a Macbook and was wondering if I could have some suggestions for/or Apps I should check out from the App Store.
I know I could just look myself, but thought this would be a fun way to meet new friends!

I also have a few questions about iPhoto and if there was another Photo/Media app I could use instead. (crazy i know)

Do a search as stated. Tons of resources available. Aperture and Lightroom are popular iphoto alternatives, but they are pricey unless you do a lot of photo work.
