My cd/dvd drive on my macbook has decided not to work and instead of wanting to pay the booku bucks to get it repaired I am looking into a good external drive that will work with a mac. Does anyone have any good suggestions?

This drive will work with a USB and/or FireWire capable Mac right out of the box. No modifications are necessary.

Both USB and Firewire, it works great.

This might seem like overkill in trying to find out about this product, but I'm sending it to my husband in Iraq--the MacBookPro DVD drive died upon its arrival to him apparently. I wanted to know if besides burning CD's and DVD's, whether the 115D plays CD's and DVD's on the native iTunes and DVD player software already on the Mac without requiring the installation of additional drivers or software. Thank you so much for your help!

Yes, but set your CD and DVD preferences accordingly in Apple Menu -> System Preferences -> CDs & DVDs
