Hey All,

As a parent, there are times that I let my child play with the iPhone. I was wondering for those parents, what type of cases are they getting to have serious protection against accidental drops and maybe even water resistant as well. (I have searched this subforum but there do not seem to be many threads about "child protection").

I have thus far thought about these case manufactures:

LifeProof
Otterbox

Any others?

Thanks!

I have not used their iPhone cases but have their cases on 3 iPads in the house with an infant and young children abusing iPads daily. Dropped, spilled on, stepped on, thrown, pounded, chucked/hurled across the room and the iPad look as good as new when I take them out of the case. We have had one inner plastic housing crack on the case due to abuse, did not affect performance or the iPad. More importantly they operate fantastically.

Gumdrop (http://www.gumdropcases.com/) sent out an email to its previous customers this morning offering 25% off the new iPhone case. "Order today and get in time for your iPhone 5 delivery and save 25% by using coupon code 'iphone5-25off' at check out."

I have used both Otterbox and Lifeproof on the 4/4s. Lifeproof is thinner however does not seem as bomb proof. I myself am a huge fan of Element cases and not letting the kids touch the phone. They can handle the iPad all they want, but do not touch the phone!

Best of luck!

The best suggestion would be... to not let your child play with your phone? I mean, it's not a toy? I don't mean that rudely, but that's an expensive piece of equipment... if you need to let them play with something, maybe give them your old phone to play with?

I would go with Otterbox or Griffin. I know Griffin is coming out with their Survivor seires. http://www.griffintechnology.com/armored?gclid=CM-Xu-nUxLICFWThQgod9x4AAw Or it may already be out. But it looks extremely durable.

I've heard really bad things about Lifeproof. I think I read a thread here about someone who got waterdamage on their phone using Lifeproof even though they claim their cases are waterproof.

I would suggest keeping your children in a airtight safe or locked closet. A basement with retractable stairs could also be used in a pinch. I've heard good results were had with older refrigerators - the ones with the locking handles.

Unfortunately, orphanages and animal rescues are generally full these days, so this is a problem that will most likely require a home-made solution.
