I'm an amateur short filmmaker (who is considering majoring in film in college). I had a couple of good programs on my Windows PC, but since switching to Mac, I've only used iMovie. I've outgrown it at this point. Actually, I outgrew it awhile ago, but I haven't done any major projects in a bit.

Anyhow, I'm looking for video editing software that is of better quality than iMovie, but I don't need something as advanced as say Final Cut Studio (yet). I've been considering Final Cut Express, but $200 is a lot of money to me right now. Also, if anything exists that is like Adobe After Effect, but is not Adobe After Effect, that would be awesome.

It would be ideal if these apps could be found in the app store, but I won't be picky. Thanks.

Don't know anything for sure, but it's my understanding that Final Cut (and Express, perhaps) will be updated soon. It might be worth waiting to see if they make the new version of FCE available on the App Store. Maybe it'll be more affordable (like Aperture).
