Hello everyone. I know there are a few posts about the Surface Book, but I'm only concerned with last year's model. I don't need the latest one, seeing that it's mainly the battery and GPU that was updated. After being disappointed about Apple in the last few weeks, I've had enough. I'll probably keep my iMac G3 as a vintage item, but that's it. There was a post I made a month or two ago about alternatives to my 2012 rMBP. However, after looking at other notebooks, I decided to go with the Surface Book. The reason? Simple. More versatility. My only problem is I've been out of the Windows ecosystem for so long. So, here are my questions to people who has been using Surface Books.
1) How big is the performance increase between the i5 and i7? I don't play games on notebooks, but is the i5 going to be an issue for drawing apps like Inkscape or Krita?
2) With the Anniversary update on Windows 10, how much better does it run on the Surface Book? I have heard of issues like the "sleep of death."
3) I'm planning to get into Japanese manga drawing as a hobby. Is the Surface Pen the only stylus that works with the Surface Book, or are there 3rd party alternatives available?
4) I know the answer might be no, but can the Surface Book be upgraded (like ram)? Or am I going to be stuck with whatever particular model I choose? It's not too much of an issue with me. I don't use a lot of ram.
5) What bugs and problems do I need to be aware of before buying the Surface Book? From experience (and I've learned this the hard way), nothing is perfect. My Mac still has an LCD Mura defect, even when it was replaced due to IR issues. I decided to just live with it.
Not trying to sound like a Microsoft Fanboy, but I have to admit, the Surface Book is very well thought-of, and looks fantastic. I will miss using Macs back when they were awesome (honest!), but it has come to the point where Apple is not worth considering anymore. Your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
