Summerboard scrolling

A long while ago, I definately remember seeing on youtube some hacked iPhones which, instead of scrolling sideways for more apps, scrolled downwards (on the main page).
Did this only work on earlier firmware versions or what ???
Is it a completely different program? (other than summerboard)

Yes, that was the older version that worked on 1.0. I really don't know why it's not in the newer versions. Anyone know?
