I am brand new to Mac's so please be gentle with me. I bought a used G4 MDD 1gig dual with 2 gig of ram and it is working great. I noticed it came with a dvd burner called super drive that burns dvd's at 2 times and cd's at 8 times. That might have been ok in 2002 but today a speed that slow is insane. Can I go to Newegg and buy any dvd burner that has IDE interface and install it in my Mac, or does it have to be a Mac burner from Apple? Thank you for any reply's.

Yes you can get any new drive that is PATA IDE interfaced, not SATA.

I've replaced the superdrives in Powermac G5s, not G4s, before but almost 100 percent sure that the G4s use the PATA interface like the G5s.

It's totally easy on the G5s, I'm sure it's not that hard at all on the G4s.

Here's a new one with lightscribe on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/LG-GH22LP21-PAT...ge_Internal&hash=item588e5cae6c#ht_8183wt_828
