Superdrive compatibility outside of a Mac

I am wanting to build a small HTPC and wondering if I can use the Superdrive from my dead MBP. It's a SATA drive, so I can connect it (I think it needs a slim SATA to SATA adaptor)...and it worked in my MBP when I installed windows/bootcamp.

Anyone know of a reason why it won't work?

EDIT: I will be installing Windows 7 on the HTPC

I don't see why not, although you may have to install the Boot Camp drivers...
