Hey there!

My Superdrive seems to have died. It will read and burn CDs, and read DVDs - it will not burn DVDs single or dual-layer.

I have been doing everything possible:
- I downgraded from Leopard to Tiger.
- I tried burning using Toast and Disk Utility
- I tried burning using Finder

Nothing works.

I am wondering if anyone can point me towards a tutorial for replacing a Superdrive and if they can direct me where to buy a replacement Superdrive. (My warranty ran out and I did not buy AppleCare - regretfully)

Does anyone know if an Apple Store will sell me a Superdrive over the counter?

Thanks

Needing to use an external all the time is a pain. I don't want to have to carry that with me all the time.

very true - personally i'd just as soon not mess with the innards of my MB...but then again if the warranty is already expired i might give it a shot

if your warranty is good apple will replace it.. if not don't go through them. They are way more expensive than any where else. I could explain why but just trust me on it. Unless you are still under your warranty buy one online and install it yourself it isn't that hard.. or send it to a different company.. there are many that will fix it for not much..

Do you know of any good online retailers that sell replacement Superdrives? I'm in Canada so that makes the selection a bit more limited...

haha shut it josh lol sorry i didn't read that closely :p

http://www.powerbookmedic.com/

that's what i've used everytime i've taken any macs apart..
also i would honestly just purchase one on ebay or some other cheap seller.
buying it more expensive wont really give you much more unless your actually buying a better drive
just google cheap superdrive

Thanks a lot.

eBay prices weren't any better than that. I'm gonna check it out some more.

I'll let you know how it goes once I get this done.

Thanks again.
