The superdrive on my Mac Pro desktop computer doesn't read any discs.
When a data or music disc, for example, is inserted into the drive, the disc doesn't mount onto the computer desktop. Also, the drive is greyed out in the Disc Utility application.

Thanks for any tips on how to troubleshoot and/or fix this problem.
 
Could it be a dirty lens?

There are drive cleaning kits available.

If you come to the conclusion the drive itself has failed, you could just pick up another internal DVD/CD drive (probably dirt cheap), or even connect an external USB DVD drive...
 
Yes, it was a dirty lens that I have now successfully cleaned.
