i just bought this powerbook titanium with the superdrive.
this is my first time tryin to burn a music cd and iam using itunes to do it.
The superdrive recognizes the black cd but after when it about to start burnin i get a error message that says:::
"The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media."

what does this mean?
is there something iam doin wrong?
is the superdrive bad or something?
please help iam a new mac user

Burner is bad.

You can find external fairly cheap but if you want internal you can get
macsales.com
ifixit.com

wow ur sure that means its bad?
i just bought this for 200 and now iam goin have to put 100bucks for a new superdrive?
i just tryed playing a dvd and it worked.
can it maybe dirty? should i use a lens cleaner or duster?

It's a faulty burner. You're not able to get that fixed, SuperDrive will need to be replaced if you want to burn. I believe writing is different from reading in terms if function and how it's done.

Do you do a lot of burning?
Is cd/dvd burning a requirement for you?
Maybe just get an external, USB burner. Would that work?

thanks everyone for the answer.

i do alot of burner and it is just a pain carrying a external burner.

is it hard to replace one and if i buy a new one,
will it just be plug and play?
will i have to take apart most of the laptop just to replace it?

also what/how is the best way to transfer files from my powerbook to my windows pc?
thanks

could this be a software problem with itunes.

what other burn software can i use to burn a cd?

thanks
