My Macbook's combo drive has gone bad, and I need a new alternative. It works for small things, so an external drive is an option. It has not been an issue, but now with Leopard coming out, I need a DVD drive for the installation. If I can get an internal superdrive on the cheap ($100-150), I'd install it myself.

Otherwise, I just need a fast firewire 400 (I need to boot from the DVD) external drive.

So... where can I get a superdrive for macbook?
Or... what external FW400 drive to buy?

Try for the superdrive first. Have a look at ifixit.com and ebay :)
