I need to replace the DC Input board on my 12" Powerbook G4. While I have it apart I think I'm going to replace the CD burner/DVD drive that hasn't worked in awhile. Can I put the DVD burning Superdrive in or is it more needed then just swapping the physical components?

As Intell said, yes it will work. A little more info if you want, any slim IDE or Atapi slot load dvd burner will work.

isn't patchburn needed? I thought drives that were not shipped with any of the ibooks/powerbooks need patchburn? (http://www.patchburn.de/)

Another thing I'd like to know, are the PowerBook Superdrives (perhaps) quieter, than those Apple used in iBooks. (If that can be said generally anyway). I find mine to be very loud.

Patchburn isn't needed in Leopard/10.5. I've come across some desktop non-OEM burners, mostly Pioneer, that work fine in Tiger without a problem.
