I remember my pre-unibody MBP's SuperDrive had made a loud noise when it booted up. I then got a 2008 MBP and either through a firmware fix or something, it was never really loud any more. With the 2011 MBP, the behavior seems to have reverted back to a loud eject sound when booting. Is this what all of you are seeing as well? If it's a driver/firmware issue, I'm not sure why Apple went backwards on this.

Is it loud when you rip a cd/dvd? My Mini had the loud SuperDrive when booting and loading/ejecting disc. I finally took it to the Apple Store and they put a new one in, different brand, and now it is SILENT.

It's actually pretty silent when I use it. A tiny whine but I sometimes wonder if it's even working cause it's so quiet. (Fans don't run either.) I guess I am just shocked that a "problem" came back after it was already fixed in a previous generation MBP.

Just being picky really...
