SuperDrive only recognised as DVD-ROM - cant write?

So, last night I removed the SuperDrive from my 24" 2009 iMac and replaced it with an ssd drive.

I've put the SuperDrive into an external USB enclosure but now I can't use it to burn cd's or dvd's

It reads them fine and it was working fine before I took it out of the iMac..

Any suggestions
