macbook air

my superdrive should be plug and play, but is not working.
when i open windows explorer - it does not display the apple superdrive.
when i plug and unplug the drive from both the direct usb and the usb hub it gives a mesage that it recognises the new hardware "apple optical drive" but says that new hardware installation has problems and might not work properly.
(i am using windows xp)
the superdrive has accepted a disk, but now since i can't see on windows explorer, i can't get it out.......

there is a vague possibility that the drive was damaged by small children who had inserted a couple business cards for fun.....
