I have a mid 2007 MBP that I've had since the model came out. I just got the machine back from apple after a failed superdrive. The new drive makes a completely different sound when media is inserted into it. It seems a lot more solid. Is this likely a newer model of the drive. Can anyone confirm this?

What kind of sound is it? A good sound, or a bad sound?

And is solid a good thing or a bad thing?

It's definitely a good sound. The sound my drive made before was sort of rattly. It now makes a zippier noise. I don't think the sound befoer was abnormal in an way though, because my computer always made it as does my wife's macbook which is what makes me think it's like a different model drive inside.

Maybe they inserted a new one, there's no way to tell. As long as it works it's GOOODD!
