Does anyone know which, if any, models of superdrive can replace the Hitachi GH80N currently in my 2012 G5? Is there something newer that will work? I am running Mojave 10.14.6 as my OS.
Thanks in advance

Good afternoon, per the macsales.com website and from personal experience, the LG Blu-Ray Multi Drive works really well up to 16X BD-R, 16X DVD+/-R, 8X DVD+/-RW, 8X DVD+/-R DL, & 48X CD burn speeds. Supports M-DISC extended life media. Part: WH16NS40. I replaced both optical drives on my 2012 5,1 with really good results, best of luck.

Thanks for the tip. I will look into it.

You'll just have to pry the front plastic off of those stock drives. Mine died a long time ago... then we were throwing away a Windows PC so I popped the DVD drive out of it, pried the plastic covers off the front, and it works just fine.
