Playing around with my first MBP here, and the Superdrive sounds a little funny when I insert a CD.

It's hard to explain, but it goes something like this:

"wew wew wew" as CD is pulled into laptop

"wew thup wew thup" right after CD is fully inside laptop

Is this normal? It sure doesn't sound normal. The "thups" are relatively loud. But it seems to work ok. As it ejects, I get a "wew thup".

thanks for your feedback.

i think it's perfectly normal. the superdrive on my macbook pro and the macbook before it were all very loud, and there were forum threads about it. if it reads and burns ok, i think you're fine.

on a side note, when i read the thread title, i thought you meant that the term superdrive itself was funny. and i expected to read something about why apple just doesn't call it a dvd burner like everybody else. of course, the term's been with apple for a long time, as that's what the floppy drives were called. :)
