I'm trying to find a solution to a problem that I believe others are having. I can get my Apple Superdrive to run off of one of the USB ports on my Apple Thunderbolt Display, but only when the display is connected to an older Intel MacBook Pro (2014). When the display is connected to my much newer M1 Mac Mini, the Superdrive is recognized in system information, but the drive will not allow DVDs to be inserted. Occasionally I get a notification to connect the Superdrive to one of the USB ports on the Mini.
I'm using all the ports on the Mini itself, so I'm hoping someone else may have run into this problem and have a solution. It must by software-related, right? I can't see how there is somehow less power coming to the ATD ports given how little power the Mini consumes (40w to the 60w of the MBP). I'm running Big Sur, btw.
Thanks in advance to anyone out there who might be able to help.
