SuperDrive won't read dual-layer DVDs?

I have a 15" Aluminum PowerBook (1.25) with SuperDrive running Tiger. I just received a dual-layer DVD-R from a friend with some back-up files. However, when I insert the disc, the drive spins and makes noise, but nothing ever happens.

Will my SuperDrive not read dual-layer discs?

Surely this isn't true as I'm certain I have watched dual-layer DVD movies before. Is this just a bug in Tiger that will be fixed with a software/firmware update? Or can I never read DL discs?
