Superdrive?

I am taking a trip to LA in a month and curious how big is the Superdrive that Apple sells? I have a 6 hour flight to LAX and might want to bring a DVD or 2 along for the ride with my Macbook pro. I have quite a collection of movies in iTunes since I buy a lot of Blu-ray movies that include a digital copy over the years but I don't want to use the space on my SSD to put movies on I am curious will it fit on the tray along with my Macbook pro 13 inch. I guess I could also buy a external HDD and save them there

SuperDrive is roughly the size of two cd boxes stacked on top of each other.

An external HDD would be a better choice to buy instead of Superdrive IMO for your case
