Support for HDMI and audio on Mac OS 10.6 hackintosh

Hi folks,

I just want to say thanks for everyone's contribution towards tutorials and personal experiences they've had with setting up there own Home Theater PCs. I'd like to install Mac OS on an Asus EeeBox PC but I'm a bit concerned as to how the video and audio output will work.

Does anyone know if video AND audio will work using a hackintosh via HDMI?
If not what alternatives do I have for getting the video and audio to my TV?

The Asus EeeBox PC EB1006 has the following outputs (taken from website)...

• HDMI out x1
• Audio out (L/R) with S/PDIF x 1

However the more expensive Asus EeeBox PC EB1501 has...

• D-Sub x 1
• HDMI out x 1
• Audio out (S/PDIF out) jack x1
• Headphone-out jack x 1

I don't have surround sound at the moment but I'd like to think that if I did get it in the future that my HTPC would support it. Will this be an issue?

As far as I know, audio over HDMI is very difficult to get working at the moment. You would probably be better off to use S/PDIF, or analog audio if your TV doesn't support S/PDIF. If you get a surround sound system in the future it should also support S/PDIF.

You could try asking about the HDMI audio at InsanelyMac as well. They will probably know more about it.
