Apple today shared the trailer for "Make or Break," an upcoming surfing documentary that is set to premiere on Friday, April 29. "Make or Break" follows the world's best surfers as they battle for the World Championship title.

"Make or Break" offers behind-the-scenes access and intimate deep dive into the aspirations, challenges, accomplishments and personal lives of the surfers who compete to remain on the elite 2021 Men's and Women's WSL CT, and takes viewers on a journey to stunning surfing locations across the globe. The series follows the 2021 competition, navigating as the league responds to the global pandemic, while exploring the dynamic surfing culture along with timely issues, including diversity, mental health and the physical impact of the sport.
The series follows the 2021 World Surf League Men and Women's Championship Tour, with the first episode following a competition at the Banzai Pipeline in Hawaii. Banzai Pipeline and other surf spots used in championship events are highly dangerous, with Pipeline is specifically known for some of world's deadliest waves that have led to several surfer deaths.

Other Championship Tour spots highlighted in the series include Santa Cruz, California; New South Wales, Australia; Papara, Tahiti; Taghazout Bay, Morocco; Bali, Indonesia; Tuamotus, French Polynesia; Netanya, Israel; and more.

Some of the highest ranked surfers in the world will be featured in the documentary, including 11-time world champion Kelly Slater, seven-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore, Three-time world champion Gabriel Medina, Two-time world champion Tyler Wright, 2019 World Champion and Olympic gold medalist Italo Ferreira, and 2021 Olympian Tatiana Weston-Webb. The series has already been renewed for a second season.

And ANOTHER documentary...

They are cheap to produce and kind of the new popular format these days. Personally, I don’t find them any worse than a majority of scripted shows, and I like the fact many documentaries are no longer than a movie or a miniseries.

It definitely seems like Apple is picking up the programs from the bargain bin at the front of the store by the registers. Instead of $4.99 Dolf Lundgren DVDs, it's the programming that HBO, Netflix, Hulu, Disney and Paramount passed up.

If ever there was a perfect Apple TV documentary it’s this, apple still playing it safe with these types of shows. They need a break out doc that captures viewers, no disrespect to Surfers but I read that and it doesn’t draw me in.

italo threw tantrum at Bells lol.

Brazzos live on another planet. What do you mean I didn't win, it must be rigged, God is on my side. Between them and the WSL, the sport is becoming unwatchable.

LMAO

This is spot on. There was a Brazilian meeting and it was decided that Italo would pic up the mantle now that Gabby isnt on tour.

This may be a controversial opinion but why are retired guys like Mick getting a local wildcard spot. If retired guys are still in the running for the wildcard Id rather see Occy get it every time.

I guess some Americans are jealous of the Brazilian dominance. Just be open minded that other countries excelling at surf is great for the sport overall.

I mean, I hope the WSL can figure it out. When there are good waves at venues like Pipe the product is now surprisingly watchable. But, as always, the contest format and nature of surfing itself will always make mass market appeal difficult.

Apple TV+ needs a hit sitcom or something.
I wouldn’t exactly call it a sitcom, but Ted Lasso is probably the closest they’ll get for right now.
What they really need, and what’s gonna be almost impossible to find because these things aren’t easy to predict, is a show that just completely takes over everything when it’s released.
Think Stranger Things, The week after a new season of that show comes out you don’t hear anything else.
Again Ted Lasso is probably the closest that it’s gotten so far but I still don’t think that show has the full cultural attention that something like a stranger things has gotten. Also if it’s true that that show is wrapping up after season three, they’re really going to need a new hit on their hands.

Blah. Wake me up when the Supermodel documentary is released. That's what I'm waiting for!

i get it. but paramount? come on, every original on there is bad.

Even without being interested in surfing, a documentary like this can become increasingly interesting if you ask yourself what it could symbolize.

And the end of the trailer a lady says ‘This is a war, you have to find a way to win it and do it at all costs’. This is of course a mentality that can be observed everywhere in different fields in life. Not saying it is wrong or right, I’m only approaching it to understand, not to judge. I think it is in everyone of us, more or less, basically as a reaction to what we think life is and should be. In some the reaction is minimally, in others very intense.

I mean, ‘make or break’, is it true or a belief? How does life happen? Can and do we make or break our lives? Are succes and the prevention of failure a matter of choice? If it is, then why still attempts to prevent or correct failure? Maybe these attempts indicate that succes is not as makeble as many seem to believe?

If succes is makeable, will it ever be possible for those who believe it to be peacefully fearless and happy every moment in their lives, no matter what? As far as I can see, competitiveness, pressure to perform and the division, fear, carelessness and even ruthlessness that can come with it, explain a lot of needless suffering in the world. Or perhaps the suffering is needed to understand that it is needless.
