iPod touch surf on TV

Perhaps a silly question, but why is it I can watch YouTube and other video as well as viewing photos on my Tv when I connect my iPod Touch via the dock, but I can't surf the net or check my email using my Tv?

I would really like to see some sort of portable version of Front Row with web browsing and email on the iPod Touch when connected to a tv. Is this out of the question or might 3rd party software be able to provide something like this?

It's probably out of the question. I can't imagine that there's a huge demand for this.

A scaled down version of the AppleTv interface would be cool for streaming and downloading media when the touch is connected to a Tv
